Months after rumours of trouble in Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma’s marriage, news is that the couple’s divorce hearing will now take place on March 20. The Bombay High Court on March 19 ordered a Family Court to hear Yuzi and Dhanashree’s divorce case on Thursday, March 20, considering that Yuzi is participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to begin from March 22, Bar and Bench reported.
For the unversed, Yuzi is the most expensive spinner in the IPL 2025, after he received INR 18 Crore to join Punjab Kings team.
As per reports, due to their differences, Yuzi and Dhanashree have been living separately for more than 2.5 years. Considering this, both Yuzi and Dhanashree have requested the court to grant them a divorce without exploring the possibilities of fixing their marriage during the the six-month cooling-off period.
For the unversed, as per section 13B under the Hindu Marriage Act, an estranged couple needs to try making their marriage work in a six-month cooling-off period, failing which their divorce proceedings begin in the court. But in 2017, the Supreme Court ruled that if both parties agree to the settlement, then their six-month cooling-off period can be waived.
It is noted that Yuzi and Dhanashre’s request for an early divorce was denied by the family court on February 20. The reason was that Yuzvendra Chahal had only partially paid the alimony which was agreed as a settlement between both parties.

The IPL 2025 season will once again witness an intense battle for the Purple Cap, awarded to the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. This article provides a detailed list of all Purple Cap winners in IPL history, highlighting their performances and records.
It is being reported that Yuzi had agreed to pay INR 4.75 Crore as alimony to Dhanashree, but he had only paid INR 2.37 Crore in February, at the time of their court hearing. The court had noted that the cricketer had only partially partially completed the terms laid of the settlement back then, Bar and Bench reported. So, the case was then taken to the Bombay High Court, where Justice Madhav Jamdar said that Yuzvendra Chahal’s second instalment of the settlement payment can be paid as permanent alimony after his divorce with Dhanashree.
It is noted that a few weeks ago, rumours were rife of Yuzvendra Chahal paying a whopping INR 60 Crores to Dhanashree as alimony. But, responding to the rumours, Dhanashree issued a statement wherein she said,”We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be clear— no such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumours whatsoever. It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation.”
